statement

I am from the Dominican Republic, on the side of the island where sugar cane thrives, and the Caribbean Sea meets the land. This intimate connection with my hometown encapsulates the essence of my identity. My immigrant experience shapes how I address the subject matter in my work centered on displacement from my homeland, the search for identity, and cultural heritage. Iā€™m interested in situating these experiences within a global context, creating parallels with forgotten histories and the significance of finding a place in the narrative of American culture. For me, addressing concerns related to cultural adaptation, identification, and the negation of existence is crucial. The context of my work is interconnected in process and methodology. My practice is multidisciplinary, using analog techniques and digital media; it explores the impact of structures imposed by standards of beauty, race, class, and societal neglect, questioning the perception of self. Culturally, my work reflects my metamorphosis and hybridization, acknowledging a fragmented history disconnected from personal narratives of belonging.
