This work explores the intricacies of cultural rituals surrounding hair and its broader influence on race and identity. Hair, as an extension of our bodies, holds spiritual and emotional significance, embodying our essence, history, and future. The work focuses on the experiences of mixed-race individuals who often feel compelled to hide their Black heritage. In this context, hair becomes a symbol of this concealed identity, representing internal struggles with colorism and the desire for acceptance. This work is deeply personal and culturally resonant, reflecting on societal pressures, beauty standards, and the ongoing quest to connect with ancestral roots while confronting feelings of loneliness, isolation, and anxiety.
